Lawrence Chan, Laverton creek wetlands and estuary (DOCO 2024)

Laverton creek wetlands and estuary situated in Melbourne's west about 15 km from the CBD. It is a part of the Hobsons bay wetlands system which is classified as a Key Biodiversity Area by birdlife Australia. this area has naturally formed lagoons , intertidal mudflats and wetlands attracting large numbers of waders and waterfowl. Numerous internationally migratory birds visits the area every year ( part of East Asian-Australasian Flyway). It also hold a number of critically endangered bird species such as Swift parrots. Wetlands , especially in proximity to the city has a lot to offer for the community's well beings , from physical health to mental health . As part of my ongoing photographic documentation of the area, I submitted this portfolio to highlight the ecological conservation work and the natural beauty of the area .
