Rosemary Featherstone, March of the Shamrock (DOCO 2024)
St. Patrick's Day was originally celebrated in Ireland with religious services and feasts in honour of St. Patrick, one of Ireland's patron saints. The first parade was on March 17, 1762 was held in NYC; not Ireland, and was comprised of a band of homesick Irish ex-patriots and Irish military members serving with the British Army stationed in the colonies. Celebrations generally involve public parades and festivals, Irish traditional music, and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks. Brisbane hosted the Irish parade; along with their cousins around the world, with a sea of marchers wearing the green, dancing a jig and sharing the music.
