Lynn Rowley, Melancholy Primates (ANIMAL 2024)

In this series of animal images you see the expressive emotive nature of animals. As humans we often think of animals as cute or happy or sometimes even without emotion. However these images show that animals can feel deep negative emotions as well. In the first image you see a despondent Red Howler Monkey that to me looks on the verge of tears with his lips pressed and quivering, whilst the melancholic Siamang appears to me like he is hugging himself to make himself feels less alone and the final image the pensive Marmoset is lost and uncertain where his playful friends have gone after they darted under the shade cloth.
