Somdatta Ganguly, Misty Mournings (LANDSCAPE 2023)
Last autumn, as we drove towards the Blue Lake (Warwar) in Mount Gambier on a very gloomy day, with clouds gliding down to engulf us, a sudden glimpse of orange haze greeted us in front of the Carinya Gardens Cemetery. We stopped and sensed an eerie calmness around. The Eucalypt gardens shimmering in autumn colour was slowly being devoured by a mist, as if the doleful sighs of the spirits from long ago saturated the air. We were immersed in an air of mourning, yet it inculcated an amazing sense of peaceful calm and beauty around. Soon we left for the blue lake, however, the atmosphere remained etched in our memories and of course on the memory chips of the camera
