Kip Scott, Neo Tokyo (Travel (2019))

The Neo Tokyo series explores the Asian megalopolis and the ways Tokyo comes to life between dusk and dawn in a futuristic neonscape, a time when the natural light disappears and the artificial light takes over. The series is inspired by cyberpunk imagery from movies like The Matrix and Blade Runner. It was photographed in early 2019 the year the original Blade Runner film was set, and as such interrogates the commercial nature of urban utopias while celebrating the technical and creative sophistication of the East, as to opposed to the rapidly diminishing global dominance of the West. I captured the series using new technologies like artificial intelligence and computational photography to take handheld high dynamic range night photos with cameras small enough to fit in your front pocket . The series builds on my extensive photographic interest and work in world architecture and changing cultures.
