Lindsay Webb, Network (LANDSCAPE 2024)
These three photos are a narrow slice of a broader project exploring trees/forests as a subjective field space i.e. imagining the trees as an interdependent functioning society lacking distinct heroic figures or privileged individuals. In this case, two photographs from the Pilliga East forest taken approximately one year apart at various stages between catastrophic fire events. This self-sustaining resilient world is countered by a rural scene (in Euchareena) where human intervention has created a selection of orphaned trees that have ultimately succumbed to the isolation and uni-functional expectation (shade for grazing animals) thrust upon them.
