Lewis Burnett, Ningaloo in the dark (Animal 2020)

This Black and White series portrays a more intimate glimpse into what life is like underwater on the Ningaloo reef. Image 1: Manta ray performing a feeding technique known as barrel rolling. When large concentrations of food occur in one place these majestic rays are known to slowly perform backflips or loop the loops in order to consume as much food as possible. Image 2: Zebra sharks spots are unique to each individual, the same as a human finger print. These elegant sharks are considered harmless to humans and are unfortunately critically endangered. Image 3: A mature female Tiger shark cruises past my camera. Freediving with large sharks can be quite an exhilarating experience and these graceful tiger sharks are no exception.
