Lewis Burnett, Ningaloo Reef (Animal 2020)
The majestic Ningaloo Reef is known for its abundance of marine megafauna, pristine reef and desolate coastline. Located 1200km's north of Perth on Australia's West Coast, the reef is home to a huge variety of sharks, rays and turtles. I was lucky enough to spend last year living and working on this stunning reef and witnessed many events that I'll likely never forget. Image 1: Manta ray mating chain, When ready to mate Manta rays perform a form of underwater ballet, twisting, turning and chasing each other for days at a time. Image 2: A Majestic Zebra shark cruises over the shallow inside reef. These stunningly elegant sharks are easily my favorite to encounter out there on the reef. Image 3: An endangered Green Turtle surfaces for a breath of air on a glassy flat day. Often considered one of the most relaxed marine species these little turtles spend most of their day munching away on algae and seagrass.
