Elli Bardas, On Closer Reflection (Art (2019))

This series started as an exploration into physical and spiritual boundaries – where does what I see meet what I feel. With the fundamental belief that we are spirit inhabiting a body I wanted to explore where one began and the other ended. This led to an exploration of the transcendent sublime as it is during these experiences that we are given the opportunity to leave the awareness of our bodies and thoughts behind and communicate directly with spirit – our spirit. The next question I confronted was; ‘what exactly, are we transcending?’ Our thoughts, our ego, our illusion of self. I became aware that we filter the world through our life experience and are programed with various beliefs and world views. I believe that what we see in life is a reflection of our thoughts and our programming. It’s the programming that makes us different and spirit that makes us the same, it’s what makes us love or hate, create or destroy. I’m not interested in what makes us different. I’m interested in what makes us the same.
