Wendy Wiseman, Only One (Doco/Photojournalism (2019))

When we first had our daughter, we assumed that we wouldn’t have any problems giving her a brother or sister, but nearly 4 years later and with no medical reason why we still haven’t had another child. With age comes the realisation that she will most likely be our only child and with that comes the feeling of loss and guilt, loss of all those magical moments that you think you will experience again and guilt of not being able to give her a playmate and extended family. The constant worry of what life will be like for her as an only child and who she will have to lean on in the coming years. For the moment she seems content if not a little too wise for her age.
