Ty Stedman, Ordered Abstraction (Landscape (2019))
'Ordered Abstraction’ is a collection of aerial landscapes that explores the unintended visual and environmental impact that humans have on the landscape. Captured above remote parts of Western and South Australia from the vantage point of various aircraft, I wanted the series to communicate the environmental impact of mining, extraction and aquaculture in a way that captures attention through colour and form. Landscapes from an array of palettes, locations and forms were selected to represent the broad spectrum of human impact on the planet. Each location evokes unique forms of unintentional order via a landscape exhibiting graphical elements through the geometry, shapes, lines and patterns present. Order coincides with an element of abstraction, requiring an increased level of engagement from the viewer to elicit the image's narrative.
