Peter Ogden, Our Glorious Dead (Landscape 2020)
From Snow Gums to Grey Mangroves, the many species of trees across Australia always lure me back. Their shapes and patterns; the twisted forms of their outstretched limbs; their innate strength as they hang onto wind-lashed coasts and the shelter they give to our native fauna. When these trees die, they take on a whole new identity. Sentinels standing guard over the forests and deserts – cut, hacked, bleached and battered. Yet they remain strong against all that has been thrown at them…and somehow, they are rendered as beautiful as ever.
