Mieke Boynton, Portraits of a Mountain (Landscape (2019))

I've been visiting the little village of Spåkenes in Norway during Winter for several years now, and I love this majestic mountain: Store Vaggastind. I also love how the shoreline of the Lyngenfjord changes depending on the weather. It's always freezing cold and dark (I've never actually seen the sun break over the horizon), but despite this, the landscape changes constantly. The rockpools can be frozen solid... or covered in snow... or entirely consumed by the ocean. Some days, it's calm and still, and some days, it's howling a gale and the wind bites at your fingers and nose and makes your eyes stream with tears. It's absolutely beautiful during the day, but at night, if you're lucky, the "Nordlys" dances overhead, and that's an experience impossible to forget.
