Belinda Allen, Sacred/Profane (Art (ATEP 2017))
Sacred/Profane (Europe) Travelling in the ‘old world’, one is seduced by the ancient artefacts and architecture, some of which seem to languish almost disregarded in the landscape. Modern life goes on, and new ways of doing co-exist with the traditional. It is interesting to consider how the past is continually absorbed into contemporary culture, and how the contemporary becomes history. In this series, photographs of ‘sacred’ images of history, culture and landscape taken in the south of France and central Italy are layered with the quotidian and ‘profane’ - street scenes, newspaper clippings, found texts and accidental ‘art’. http://belindaallen.com.au/
