Martin Bigmore, Secrets of the Salt Lagoon (LANDSCAPE 2021)

The salt lake at St Leonards in Victoria has always been a dry dusty wasteland, on every one of my previous visits. However, I noticed that heavy early summer rain had filled the lake so I decided to try my luck once more to see if I could capture something unique. As my luck would have it, the shallow water had begun to recede due to the warmer weather, and in doing so had left these salt deposits which had created wonderful abstract patterns. I happily took many shots while the light was favourable, settling on these as my favourite. If viewed close up, there are even the remains of small crustations and shells.
