Will Luong, Society Use (Single Shot 2020)

The statue, "Father and Son" by John Downie, represents a father keeping away an item from his son. The photo was taken on a clear day in January 2020, after what was a solid month of smokey haze engulfing Canberra as a result of the fires that ravaged the country. The Father holds a cup, angled in front of the sign, represents that which society needs and requires use of, out of reach of his Son, the future. The Son desperately scrambles for his future survival, his father believing he knows better. In the enflamed contemporary environment, I wished to capture the generational discord in Australia, in the capital of the nation.
