Allen Koppe, Surface Fiction (OPEN 2022)

I am interested in how the human “eye sees” and then the “brain interprets” what is seen to make a final determination of the visual. I present the audience with not just one immediate captured moment but rather a seemingly subtle yet complex layering of imagery that invites visual interpretation and contemplation. Through my lens I seek balance and simplicity and photograph everyday urban shapes and forms, then remove them from the noise and distractions of familiar urban life to reveal them silenced in an unexpected minimalist environment.
