Amanda Stuart, Survival Day 2021 (DOCO 2021)

I was invited to take photos at a Survival Day Celebration on January 26th. It was a moving and joyful experience, and brought together indigenous and non-indigenous people, all with the same intention of celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island cultures on a day that has a dark history. A dancer spoke in her language and then did a stunning dance performance, later inviting everyone to join her. I loved seeing the enthusiasm of the crowd, with white people joining in - a wonderful atmosphere of celebration, devoid of bitterness.
