Luke Zeme, Sydney's Changing Face (Architecture 2020)

Australia has some amazing architects doing groundbreaking design on an International stage. I chose to highlight 3 different architects with a focus on their use of materials. I selected the Marrickville Library, by BVN architects, as my first choice because they've done such an amazing job resurrecting the old building through the use of wood in a variety of ways. My second image is of the front facade of "Calibre" a new multi-residential building in Surry Hills, by Koichi Takada Architects. The focus of the design is on craftsmanship and natural materials. 'Caliber’ is an extension of the nineteenth century Arts and Crafts movement, creating a more human relationship between residents and their environment. My third image is from one of my favourite architects in Sydney, Candalepas & Associates. I really like their use of concrete in their bold new approach to architecture in Sydney. Their new Punchbowl Mosque is going to be a spectacle, once it's open to the public, but for now I have chosen to photograph their latest community apartment building "The Surry" during sunset. The coloured materials, green and orange, are specially made tiles and for the project and has a huge impact as you approach the building from down the street.
