Mikael Kulig, The Dance of the Squid (ANIMAL 2023)

The enchanting movements of swimming squid were captured in these photos during a night dive in Chowder Bay, NSW, Australia. The semi translucent body of these animals allows some of the light to penetrate the organism, which gives the illusion of them being illuminated from within, and the rest of the light reflects off the subject's surface. The result provides a stark contrast against the surrounding black water.
