Teague Leigh, The Heart of Bunjil (BLACK & WHITE 2024)

In country Victoria, Australia, there is a geoglyph of Bunjil, known as the creator spirit in Wathaurong lore. My intention when visiting this site was to focus on the "body" of Bunjil: ridges in the boulders a millennium of accumulated wrinkles; a fallen shrub, Bunjil's heart beating an echo across thousands of years, thudding inside my own chest; white minerals in the boulders, stretch marks from both the gradual and momentous changes to the land; deep cracks, veins pumping through the "body"; the curve of carefully placed rocks, the ancient bleached bones stretching towards a mountainous backdrop.
