Mike Wolfe, The mud men who found Jesus (DOCO 2024)
The Asaro Mudmen are an indigenous tribe from the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea. Known for their ghoulish clay masks with painted white skin, one version of their origin story describes how they created these terrifying costumes to help them survive in an area where constant tribal battles occurred over many years. They were converted to Christianity by Seventh-Day Adventist Missionaries in the 1950s. The concrete baptismal font behind the mud men in the background connects these two cultures. Today, the Mud Men demonstrated their cultural heritage to Seventh-Day Adventist Church leaders.
