Judd Sell, The Rejected (ART 2025)
This body of work was inspired by a period in my life that was marked by the shadows from the death two people very close to me. Seeking solace in the realms of the ethereal and the mysterious, I embarked on a journey to unravel the mysteries of the afterlife and beauty. In my quest to articulate the ineffable, I envisioned a series of imagery that mirrors the deep emotions stirred by the departure of cherished souls into the unknown. Through a lens tinted with both celestial radiance and infernal obscurity, I have immortalized the story of fallen angels, caught in the liminal space between heaven and hell, their elegies of anguish captured in haunting detail. Drawing inspiration from the timeless narratives of fallen angels depicted in the works of masters such as Michelangelo, I delve into the depths of the Renaissance tradition, infusing my creations with echoes of past brilliance and contemporary introspection. By merging my own struggles with artistic homage, I unravel the intricacies of mortality and transcendence, exploring themes of colour, motion, and the inexorable dance with death itself.
