Amanda Stuart, Three artists, each with a story to tell. (PORTRAIT 2024)

These three men live in my community; they all do Art in very different ways, and have interesting stories. The first man, whom I will call 'A', was an immensely successful artist and sculptor but has suffered two strokes and can no longer do any artwork. The second man, whom I will call 'B', is passionate about his painting, (he did the Ned Kelly picture), and also about his guitar and music. He has played in bands with many well-known musicians. The hint of a pair of scissors should tell you how I know him! The third man, 'C', is an Aboriginal who teaches his culture and performs healing sessions with groups and individuals, using his Yidaki (didgeridoo). His children have learnt from him and are also engaged in teaching indigenous culture. I spent a lot of time considering how I wanted to photograph these three men, so that they were more than simply photos of three people; I tried to reveal their nature as well as their appearance.
