Peter Morton, Time capsule (BLACK & WHITE 2024)

The Balmain pump house was built 90 years ago on the foreshores of the Parramatta River. It was used to house the generators which powered huge electric pumps which took cold water to the now demolished Balmain Power Station. A time capsule of early last century Sydney, which has been thankfully retained. In the second photograph can be seen the original steps leading to the maybe, supervisory, level, whilst on the back wall the words “Power Station” are clear, in case there was any doubt. In the third photograph, one can look through an opening in the padlocked gates to the far side of the building, through which a couple can be seen strolling past along the river bank towards the Iron Cove Bridge.
