Valentina Penkova, Toska (Art)
Toska is a Russian word which has yet to find its translation in English. It can at times be a relative of restlessness, spiritual anguish, yearning and boredom, amongst many other shades of feelings and emotions. One of the most prominent states of toska is a strong yearning for something indescribable, be it a place, time or person. In this series I sought to capture this constant restlessness and yearning for nothing in particular, in a place suspended in time. All images were taken with an analogue camera, 35mm film and available lighting, with no post production editing, other than cropping.
