Neil Hawkins, Urban Futures (Art 2020)
On January 7th, 2018, the temperature in Penrith CBD reached 47.3 degrees, the highest officially recorded in New South Wales. It was also Penrith's hottest day in 23 years of records and the highest temperature recorded anywhere in the Sydney Basin since 1939. This design is an artistic representation of heat radiation creating visual distortions, as though looking through a thermal camera. Hard surfaces, like concrete and bitumen, can absorb and radiate heat, further increasing the overall temperature of the surrounding urban landscape.
