Liam Thomson, Waiting to refill (Documentary/Photojournalism)

Shot in a recent travel writing internship in Canggu, Bali. I went about documenting the lives of Canggu locals. I shot most images on a Fuji X100S. I also spoke a small amount of Bahasa Indonesia to build some rapport with the subjects before taking shots. The shots of the construction site contained about 4 families living in single room bungalows at the rear of the site. They worked from sunup to sunset everyday, through heat and rain, to erect the houses over the month I was staying in Canggu. I tried to convey the happiness and gentle, playful nature of local people who haven't really had much interaction with tourists outside of seeing drunk Australians embarrass themselves, at least not on any real level of connection. I also wrote an article for travel group Global Hobo to accompany the images.
