Brett Patman, White Bay Power Station (Documentary/Photojournalism)

I was lucky enough to be given a tour by Steve, the site security guard of White Bay Power Station of who I have to give a huge thanks to for his patience over this 5.5 hour shoot and also for keeping me entertained with his stories about all the would be intruders he has protected the building from since 1995. I haven't really shot anything quite like this before so I was really excited to actually get this opportunity. I'd been wondering what this looked like on the inside for over a decade. I create the look the photos have using HDR and some heavy duty post editing. I think it really lends itself to this kind of photography. It is such an amazing and beautiful, I really think it's impossible to take a bad shot of it. During some of the shoot I had to just stand there and look at it so I could take in what I was seeing. It will be interesting to see what becomes of the site in the future. I hope whoever is tasked with redevelopment retains as much of the charm and magic of this building as possible.
