Aedan O'Donnell, Winter in Kosciuszko (Landscape (2019))
There is a quietness to alpine regions during winter that is difficult to experience anywhere else. The distinctive sound of insects and birds that are intrinsic to the Australian landscape disappear for a few short months to be replaced with a pronounced stillness. In this quiet world the incredible quality of Australian light can be experienced as it interacts with the frozen landscape in the most spectacular ways. These colours last only a few moments at the beginning and end of the day but are as unique to alpine regions as the quietness of the winter landscape that enables them.
