Nikki Russian, Winter (Single Shot 2020)

This photograph was created in response to the social repression of female sexuality and the policing of women’s bodies. While I wasn't looking to desexualise Winter, I wanted to create an image without any overt posing, angle or framing that is typically seen to cater to the male gaze. Winter was taking a moment to stretch while I was setting up the shot when I noticed her pose and expression that perfectly encapsulated my intent, while still capturing Winter’s presence.
