Australasia's Top Emerging Photographer 2022 – Jodi Weisz
Jodi Weisz has been named overall winner, Australasia's Top Emerging Photographer 2022. His winning portfolio, Tenrsion, also won the Documentary category. Along with the highly coveted title, Weisz takes home the grand prize – a Fujifilm X-T4 and XF18-135mm lens valued at $4,578, from our major sponsor, Fujifilm. As winner of the Documentary category, he receives $1,000 cash plus a SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD (2TB) valued at $549 from category sponsor, SanDisk.

Australasia's Top Emerging Photographer 2022
Jodi Weisz is a 19-year-old documentary photographer from the rural town of Bargo, New South Wales.
As a photographer, he has always naturally gravitated towards a documentary style, with a desire to capture moments of amusement. His images are joyful, yet strange, and ask the viewer to question what is happening. In 2020, he received a Band 6 in his HSC Art Major in photomedia and was also selected for the NSW HSC Art Express Exhibition. Weisz is currently studying a Bachelor of Film to develop his interest in storytelling.

About the series
"I found documenting these moments were an expression of my own curiosity. I didn't know exactly what I was capturing at the time, because I was also experiencing what I was documenting. I realise I was exploring the tension between the light-heartedness of these fleeting moments and a looming sense of darkness that came with the expression of this age. I ended up with a collection of images that help me understand the culture of teenage party scenes and how they create space to explore themselves and learn how to exist with others in this tension."
