Abut the entry: Buffers is a series of photographs that intends to interrogate the divided island of Cyprus. It looks to expose the tension, but also mundane reality of the divided state and how life has as usual begun to coalesce around the instated infrastructure of division. The photographs were taken over a series of three research gathering trips to the island where we were given special access into the Buffer Zone, a space untouched since 1974 and crumbling from neglect. It was incredibly ominous and surreal experience.

Australasia's Top Emerging Photographers, presented by Fujifilm, is the region's main platform for discovering and showcasing photographers at the outset of their careers, as well as aspiring photographers. The competition is open to emerging, student, and amateur photographers. The prize pool currently stands at over $24,000, including $9,000 in cash.The best entries will be showcased in the May–July 2023 issue of Capture magazine.
