Juli Ball has worked as a fashion photographer for 28 years based in Sydney, but her commissions have taken her all over the world, including to Europe, the USA, and Asia. Represented in Australia by The Kitchen Creative, she also have representation in China and Singapore. Her commercial work mainly consists of magazine editorials, advertising for international clients, fashion, and cosmetics campaigns. Some of her editorial clients include Grazia (Australia & Italy), Elle (South East Asia, Australia, France), Vogue (Australia, Britain), Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, InStyle, GQ, and Club 21 (Singapore). Just some of her advertising clients include Singapore Airlines Worldwide, Virgin airlines, Qantas, Mercedez-Benz, Volkswagon, Honda, Canon, De Beers, Sony, Visa, and Mastercard, among numerous others.
Before getting involved with commercial photography, she worked as an artist for ten years. She graduated from Canberra Arts School in 1986 with a Bachelor of.Arts, majoring in photography, art history and textiles. She lectured at UTS and University of Western Sydney, and tutored at the Australian Centre for Photography.
Balla has exhibited in Sydney, Melbourne, and numerous regional galleries, and she shows personal work on a regular basis. Her work is also included in the Kodak Collection of the Australia National Gallery. Most recently won the International Colour Awards in the fashion category in 2016. For the same competition, in 2015, she won the Art category.
Juli Balla is on the judging panel for Australasia's Top Emerging Photographers 2018.
