  • © Gary Knight. The outline of the body of Kola Dusmani, who according to criminal investigators, was killed by Russian paramilitaries in a small village outside Gjakove, Kosovo. After he was murdered, the house where the crime was committed was burned. Soot and ashes covered the body. Following the war, the family that owned the home returned and Dusmani’s remains from their living room. This outline could not be removed. Today it is concealed by a carpet.

Gary Knight is co-founder and principal architect of the VII Photo Agency, co-founder of the VII Foundation, and founder of the VII Academy. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Frontline Club, London; co-founder  of The GroundTruth Project, Boston; founding Director of the Program for Narrative & Documentary Practice at the Institute for Global Leadership at Tufts University; twice Chair and President of the World Press Photo Award; a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University; a Logan Non-Fiction Fellow at the Carey Institute in 2017; and is a photographer.
