Our judges – Sally Brownbill – Australasia's Top Emerging Photographers 2022

In the late 1980s, I left RMIT with a Degree in Photography and received a lot of valuable guidance as I set out on my career. I have always appreciated what this did for me and take every opportunity to pass the benefit of my experience on to others.

Initially I began sessional teaching at RMIT in both the Advertising and Photography degrees. At the same time, I started The Flash Place which represented commercial photographers, actively connecting them with the creative industry. I then took up a role in a creative consultancy managing the careers of art directors, designers, copywriters, illustrators and of course, photographers.

In 2002, I launched The Brownbill Effect, first as a website and then in 2013 as a complete service. I provide a range of highly specialised services for individual photographers and the photography industry. This unique and dynamic resource also includes my highly focused consultancies to help photographers find their path along with inspirational eBooks and podcasts.

As a way of giving back to the industry that has always supported me, I actively give my time as a mentor, judge, and guest lecturer across a variety of educational institutions. I am an Adjunct Industry Fellow within the Faculty of Health, Arts and Design at Swinburne University and a member of several course Advisory Boards.
