WINNER
Melbourne-based photographer Mihai Florea
incorporates his minimalist life philosophy
into his photographic style. Most of his works
are shot in black and white, incorporating his
ability to capture light, tones and shades. He
uses these essential elements to create
images that are strong and powerful with high
contrast, or soft and gentle. He often utilises
long exposure techniques to create a sense of
reality and allow the flow of nature to be
visible in his images.

JUDGES’ COMMENTS
“I know Photoshop and other editing programs are brilliant
tools, but in my work for architects, I can’t risk that the
viewer will be thinking more about effects than the actual
building. As such, I generally try to limit my retouching as
much as possible.”
“Many of the folios would have benefited from the
photographer having a stronger, clearer idea of what they
were trying to do, which could have been achieved by having
a stronger, clearer understanding of the subject matter they
were seeking to capture.”
“You should always straighten the lines - either use a
tilt-shift lens or do it in the final editing. Architects don’t
like seeing their buildings distroted.”
