Australasia’s Top Wedding Photographers 2021: Top 20 Single Shot category

The inaugural running of Australasia's Top Wedding Photographers was judged by a stellar line-up of some of the world's finest wedding photographers.

Category winners each receive $3,000 cash, a Sony Alpha 7 III camera valued at $2,899, and a BenQ monitor valued at $750. Runners-up take home $500 cash and an MSI Urban Outdoor Backpack valued at $380.

I photographed this wedding in Newcastle. I thought the iconic ocean baths was a nice spot for some photos later in the
afternoon. I was hesitant to go there due to the crowds sunbathing and swimming, and I knew it could potentially make it
hard to get images of the couple without too many distractions in the background. I like to create images that are somewhat
unique wherever possible, so I tried to look at the chaotic crowds on the day in a positive way and how I could incorporate that
vibe into some of the photographs. The couple walked into the shot and I waited for them to get to the middle before I fired off
a photo. To be honest, I didn’t think much of the image at the time and it wasn’t until I really looked at the photo in detail that I
realised it was so unique with all the people in their own little world, not even realising we were there.

The RMIT Design Hub staircase, Melbourne, is such an iconic location in which to shoot. Everything just fell into place for
this photo; the emotional tension and anticipation between the bride and groom is palpable, yet visually it represents my
inspiration from cinema and painting composition. The contrast between the white dress and dark staircase, and the dark
suit and bright exit help create leading lines to bring the story alive.”
